Bridging the AI Gap in Higher Education: Development of an EdTech Pilot Tool for AI-Enhanced Pedagogy

Résumé

The accelerating integration of Artificial Intelligence

(AI) into higher education is reshaping teaching, learning,

and academic management practices worldwide. In emerging

contexts such as Morocco, higher education institutions

face both opportunities and constraints in adopting

AI-powered educational technologies that are pedagogically

meaningful, scalable, and aligned with local needs. This

conference presentation displays Eureka LMS, an AI-enabled

learning management system developed by Professor Jalal

Ouraigua and tested by students and professors at EMAA

Business School in Agadir. This tool was designed

specifically to support teaching and learning in business

management and social science programs.

Rather than positioning this work as a purely theoretical

contribution, it focuses on the practical development,

deployment, and use of Eureka LMS as an innovative EdTech

solution. Built following a Design Science Research (DSR)

approach that focuses on creating and evaluating innovative

artifacts to address practical, context-specific

challenges, bridging theory and practice through iterative

design, testing, and refinement processes. Therefore, the

platform was conceived as a pedagogical artefact responding

to concrete challenges often faced by both faculty members

and students—namely, limited personalization in learning

pathways, high administrative workload, and the need for

more data-informed teaching practices.

Eureka LMS integrates several AI-driven functionalities

aimed at enhancing the educational experience. For

students, the platform offers adaptive learning pathways

that tailor content, pace, and feedback based on individual

performance and engagement patterns. This enables a shift

away from standardized, one-size-fits-all instruction

toward a more learner-centered model that promotes

autonomy, motivation, and mastery of course material. For

instructors, Eureka LMS provides intelligent tools that

automate time-consuming academic tasks such as assessment

management, attendance monitoring, grading, plagiarism

detection, and performance tracking. In doing so, it frees

up valuable time for higher-impact activities, including

mentoring, interactive teaching, and curriculum innovation.

The conference presentation will showcase key features of

the platform through a live or simulated demonstration,

highlighting its user interface, AI capabilities, and

integration within existing academic workflows. Insights

from a pilot implementation involving faculty members and

the Student Government Association (SGA) will be shared to

illustrate real-world usage scenarios, user feedback, and

observed benefits. Particular attention will be given to

how the platform supports decision-making through learning

analytics and how it fosters a more engaging and responsive

learning environment.

Beyond functionality, the conference presentation will also

address critical considerations for adopting AI in higher

education, including ethical use, data privacy, and faculty

readiness. By situating Eureka LMS within the Moroccan

higher education landscape, this work contributes to

ongoing discussions about inclusive and context-sensitive

digital transformation.

Ultimately, this pilot project aims to inspire educators,

administrators, and EdTech practitioners to explore how AI

can be meaningfully integrated into higher education

practices. It demonstrates that, when thoughtfully designed

and implemented, AI-powered tools like Eureka LMS can serve

not only as efficiency enablers but also as catalysts for

pedagogical innovation and student success. In essence,

Eureka LMS is not just a learning management system—it is

an intelligent academic ecosystem that aligns pedagogy,

technology, and governance to elevate teaching quality,

student engagement, and institutional performance.
